Saghmosergu male choir from Armenia
honors the 850th anniversary of the death of St. Nerses Shnorhali
and the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Armenian Community of Neuwied

The Armenian Community of Neuwiede.V. presents a special concert event that pays homage to the eminent Catholicos of the Armenian Church, Surb (Saint) Nerses Shnorhali. The concert, which will take place in the Catholic Church of St. Bonifatius in Neuwied-Niederbieber, promises an unforgettable journey into the rich culture and spiritual depth of Armenia through the musical works of St. Nerses Schnorhali.

The men's choir Saghmosergu from Armenia, conducted by Vahe Begoyan, will perform works of medieval Armenian sacred music by St. Nerses Schnorhali at the concert. The listeners are taken into a unique musical world of the Armenian High Middle Ages.

The 850th anniversary of the death of Nerses Shnorhali is a historical event of great importance. This remarkable event is included in the UNESCO jubilee calendar and attracts worldwide attention. This extraordinary concert and the accompanying short lecture by Prof. Dr. Mher Navoyan (Head of Scientific Council of Komitas Museum in Yerevan / Armenia) will highlight the life, work and importance of St. Nerses Shnorhali for contemporary Armenian culture.

St. Nerses Shnorhali was not only an outstanding theologian, but also a gifted poet and musician. Its legacy has shaped Armenian culture and identity over the centuries.
